I found it interesting that 100% of respondents (at the time I took the vote) feel that their partner doesn't truly understand (even when, like my husband, they are compassionate, loving and caring towards me)

I find it interesting, too, Judy. Maybe it's that being understanding is simply different from feeling truly understood, especially if those that are supportive don't have first hand knowledge of what another is dealing with.
Maybe others will share here why they feel as they do.

I think "understanding" and loving someone are two different things. For example, I cannot say that I understand what my mother went through when she had breast cancer (twice!) but I can say that I love her deeply...

I see what you're saying, Lily Jane. I hope that your mother is doing well now. I can't imagine having to go through something like that twice.
